This week’s post is inspired by Aisla’s TravelBlog Where’s My Backpack, and the theme “UP”.
Aisla quite rightly points out
"It always surprises me to see people rushing around, especially in big cities, with their eyes firmly fixed on the ground. There’s an awful lot of stuff happening above your head, if you take the time to look."
If you happen to be in London at the beginning of June, it’s Queen Elizabeth’s Official birthday, you can look UP at the Buckingham Palace balcony and see the Queen and Royal Family waiving at the crowd.
Soon after, you’ll see a ceremonial flypast which is quite impressive.
Look UP at the sky and you might see Lancaster bombers, Spitfires and the famous Red Arrows gracing the skies. So remember! June in London!

What a great post, and so true when you think about people and where their eyes are. As a child I would just stare up at the buildings when we would go into the city, in awe of the architecture, etc. And now, as an adult… I still do that! It’s actually why I prefer to walk a city that I’m visiting…then I’m not getting such a neck pain from trying to crane my head from a car window!
Kenley
thank you Kenley for your comment. Sometimes we are just too rushed to look up, especially in big cities, and we are missing a lot!
Indeed we are!!
I remember taking my kids to Bucks Palace in June several years ago. There were so many tourists outside that you could hardly move, and I was scared to death. Then Little My loosened things up by yelling “Look, it’s the Queen!” as a lady with a Thelma & Louise scarf & sunglasses shot out of the gate in a turquoise Twingo.
always takes a kid to lighten up the mood!
It’s Oscars’ season so of course, another award – very well deserved!
thank you Tinky Town….. can’t keep up, must buy another little black dress with some more sparkling bits…. must prepare a weepy of a speech
Congrats on the Sunshine award! Your posts always make me smile!
thanks Diane, apart from any awards I am glad you actually read our posts and they make you smile! sometimes I wonder whether some people just click “like” without reading anything… ciao

Love Aisla’s comment on us big city folk…so much happening above our heads:) Congratulations on the Sunshine Award, well deserved as your posts show…Thanks for your kind word on our blog.
If you go later in the Summer, when the Queen has moved on to Balmoral, you can actually visit Buckingham Palace, which is a lot of fun!
yes Camparigirl, that’s a great time to visit Buckingham Palace (or BP as a recent tube driver called it….. he announced “we are approaching GP and you can get off for BP” he meant we were approaching Green Park Station, you can get off for Buckingham Palace. I wondered how many understood this… )
